Current thoughts on Nottingham Forest as the Reds battle to stay in the Premier League with seven games remaining.
With just seven games remaining, Nottingham Forest is in the thick of a fierce Premier League relegation fight.
The Reds defeated Fulham 3-1 on Tuesday, earning much-needed victory that moved them three points clear of the relegation zone. After losing four points for violating the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Forest’s need to gain more points has grown in recent weeks.
Although it is unlikely that Forest would face more deductions, they will nonetheless challenge the penalty and risk falling further down the league standings. The remaining games for the Reds are listed here, with NottinghamshireLive ranking them from hardest to easiest on paper.
1) Manchester City (H)
This one is obvious. When they visit the City Ground on April 28, the defending champions and holders of the triple crown will probably still have a lot to gain as they attempt to win the Premier League for a historic fourth time in a row.
In the previous season’s match, Forest performed admirably to secure a 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s team. However, the Reds were dominated for the whole of that game, so getting another draw would be advantageous.
2) Tottenham (A)
Forest will play Spurs in the top four on Sunday. Ange Postecoglou’s team is two points behind Aston Villa, who are in fourth position. Since their elevation to the Premier League, Forest has a famously bad away record, so this weekend could be another challenging one.
3) Everton (A)
Despite having a record 13 straight games without a victory in the Premier League, the Toffees will probably encounter a hostile Goodison Park on April 21. Their need for points is further increased by the fact that Everton’s second accusation for allegedly violating PSR is still very murky and could result in another point loss for the team.
4. Chelsea (H)
The Blues are now in mid-table, but they still have a chance to qualify for Europe. Of course, by the time they face Forest on May 11, they may have nothing to fight for, but they still have enough talent to make it a challenging afternoon at the City Ground.
5) Wolves (H)
Despite a lack of wins since February, Gary O’Neil’s team has shown significant improvement this season. However, it is one of the Reds’ last two remaining home games, thus three points will almost certainly be required.
6) Burnley(A)
The Clarets have experienced a minor improvement in form, having not lost since the beginning of March. They are still six points from safety, with only one win since Christmas.
7. Sheffield United (A)
The Blades are condemned to relegation under Chris Wilder, having won only three league games this season. If the Reds fail to win at Bramall Lane on May 4, they most likely deserve to be relegated.
