Leeds United’s loan move for Aston Villa attacking ace Louie Barry will have to wait as the Premier League side pushes him to sign a new contract.
Leeds United’s pursuit of Louie Barry has taken an unexpected turn.
The 21-year-old forward was recalled from his loan at Stockport County and returned to his parent club, Aston Villa. According to rumors, the Premier League club is currently negotiating a new contract with Barry.
Their objective would be to sign Barry and then hunt for a new club where he could go on loan. According to sports journalist Pete O’Rourke, “Celtic and a host of Championship clubs are keen on Barry following his impressive form on loan at Stockport.”
Leeds United is rumored to be interested. Barry scored 16 goals in 24 appearances during his brief loan stay with Stockport this season. These statistics are guaranteed to energize Daniel Farke, whose squad is lacking goals from the striker position.
A reinforcement on loan would also be very welcome after the recent departures of two future prospects. Young midfielder Charlie Crew has gone out to Doncaster Rovers on loan and striker Joe Gelhardt is on loan at Hull City.
Both these players had come up through the academy at Leeds. Gelhardt was unable to find any consistency in his matches whilst Crew is yet to solidify himself as a first-team player.
Elland Road might be the venue for Barry to establish himself as one of the most promising young forwards outside of the Premier League. It comes amid questions about Patrick Bamford’s future at Elland Road.
Barry has spent the most of his professional career on loan away from Villa, where he progressed through the academy. The former West Bromwich Albion youth product returned to the Midlands after a spell with Barcelona’s Under-19s.
