‘Look at this…’: Stefan Borson suggests the actual reason Leeds sold Summerville cheaply

To meet financial regulations, Leeds United most likely sold Crysencio Summerville to West Ham for less than his valuation.

That is according to finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Championship club’s cost base after missing out on promotion last season has most likely forced them into summer sales.

Summerville is the second big-name player to leave Elland Road after Archie Gray joined Tottenham for £30 million.

The 22-year-old joined West Ham for £25 million plus add-ons, which is far less than Leeds were thought to be seeking for at the start of the transfer season.

Leeds United needed to make another large money sale.

Borson feels Daniel Farke’s team may need to make another significant sell to stay inside their permissible loss limit.

He told Football Insider: “It’s difficult to model out Leeds since we don’t know what their costs were last season yet.

“We won’t know until probably early next year.

“But we know they would have violated PSR if they had not sold Gray at his death.

“I believe that without promotion, their cost basis will need them to sell players to fulfill PSR, and Summerville is one of those guys.

“If you look at the price they sold the player for, it’s probably less than you would have expected to get six months ago.

“I believe there is a PSR element to that sale.

“It’s not PSR as in the Premier League PSR, it’s the EFL’s PNS rules, but I think there will have been an element of that.”
