Jamie Carragher believes Callum Hudson-Odoi could have done better before Liverpool scored against Nottingham Forest.
The analyst has been speaking on Monday Night Football.
So what did Carragher have to say about Forest winger Hudson-Odoi?
What Jamie Carragher saw Callum Hudson-Odoi do on Saturday.
It wasn’t going to be a fair conversation if Carragher tried to admit Liverpool got away with one against Forest.
He has accepted some responsibility for the situation that resulted in Darwin Nunez’s goal alongside Hudson-Odoi.
Forest were denied a brave point as the Uruguayan nodded home late on after a clear blunder by Paul Tierney.
Carragher believes Hudson-Odoi needed to be more tactical over the weekend after Tierney had paused the game.
He said Monday Night Football: “When I think about the Forest players and Nuno, I think of Hudson-Odoi and Diaz.
“Now, Hudson-Odoi needs to make sure Diaz does not grab the ball off him.
“The difference is Diaz is battling for a title, and he needs the ball. They may think it’s a foul, but Hudson-Odoi, don’t let Diaz get that ball.
“Look at him, he gets the ball and picks it up and he’s kicking back to the goalkeeper.”
The burden is on the referee, not Forest star Hudson-Odoi.
Okay, the Reds could have cleaned their lines a little better, but let’s not beat about the bush.
Tierney, the referee, has sufficient expertise to understand this essential law.
Simply said, it does not meet Forest’s standards.
Referees make incorrect decisions every week, and it’s simple to understand why teams toward the bottom of the league are angry.
Hudson-Odoi was arguably a touch foolish in not getting hold of the ball, but blaming him would be unfair.
Diaz tries to trick the referee into thinking it’s the goalkeeper’s ball, but the referee must remain focused.
Carragher was never going to stand up for Forest, so it’s no wonder he’s considered the role played by Hudson-Odoi.
