Liverpool confirmed the permanent signing of one midfielder from Anfield this afternoon.
With 12 days until the winter market shuts, the Reds have yet to make any acquisitions in January, but a third outgoing move from L4 has now been confirmed.
Calvin Ramsay has already gone on loan to Kilmarnock after being recalled from Wigan, and Marcelo Pitaluga has returned to Brazil with Fluminense, but there has now been another full departure from the club.
Liverpool confirm the permanent departure of Tom Hill.
On Wednesday midday, Liverpool confirmed on their official website that Tom Hill had completed a permanent transfer to Harrogate Town, a conclusion that had been anticipated following Paul Gorst’s story earlier this week.
The midfielder had played for the Reds at every age group in the academy and made one competitive first-team appearance in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Aston Villa in December 2019.
He regrettably fell victim to a 20-month injury layoff the following year not long after signing a professional deal at Anfield, however he was involved with the senior side in pre-season in the summer of 2022 and had been placed on the bench in the Europa League previous term.
Hill was highly regarded during his tenure at Liverpool.
Harvey Elliott and Caoimhin Kelleher were also among Liverpool’s starts in the aforementioned Aston Villa game little over five years ago, but while Elliott and Kelleher went on to make frequent appearances for the Reds’ first team, Hill’s senior debut would be his only.
He’d surely have had at least few more if it weren’t for the horrendous injury setback which effectively robbed him of two seasons of his career just as he seemed to be on the verge of making the significant leap from underage to first-team football.
Despite that cruel misfortune, the 22-year-old has still made a fine impression on people at both his former club and his new one.
Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower stated (via X) that the midfielder ‘was very well thought of’ at Anfield, while Harrogate head of recruitment Lloyd Kelly hailed him as ‘an active, versatile midfielder’ who’s ‘always stood out’ to them (The Yorkshire Post).
Everyone at Empire of the Kop wishes Hill all the best with his move to Wetherby Road and for the rest of his career. The League Two club has recently signed a true talent.
