Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive: Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes addresses transfers amid the Murillo link.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes discussed moves at new manager Arne Slot’s first press conference, amid speculation about Nottingham Forest’s Murillo.
The Reds’ centre-back has been linked with a summer move to Anfield, and the Brazilian has even stated that joining Liverpool “would be a good opportunity” for him.
Murillo was asked earlier this summer which other Premier League team he would like to play for, and he said: “I’d choose Manchester City, but it would be more difficult for me to be a regular starter given the players they have in their squad.”
“City and Arsenal are both battling for the Premier League crown. I wouldn’t rule out Liverpool either; it would be a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills in a big club.”
Hughes was asked about contracts and prospective transfers at Anfield this summer during Slot’s first press conference, and he answered, “It’s been a pleasure to work with Arne.
“It was a challenging situation at first. We each had duties to complete. Since then, we’ve been having everyday discussions. On a variety of topics, including logistics, organisation, and, of course, transfer window preparation. That is something we will learn more about as we go.”
“With the window open, we’ll continually look for opportunities. When asked about the quiet start to the summer transfer season, he replied, “It is difficult to say and speak industry-wide.”
“Naturally, when important competitions are happening in the summer, such as the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America, and Olympics, a lot of football is played.
“Naturally, the focus is there. Following the bustle in June, I believe that things will quiet down in July.
“Then, as always, once August arrives and coaches have had more time to work with players, I believe opinions will be more settled at football clubs.
“You may then see a situation in August, similar to recent seasons, where there is a little bit of a rush to get things done and ensure everyone’s squads are in order.
“I don’t believe it will be any different, but who knows what will happen economically? It’s difficult to say and speak for other clubs. “I see a quiet July followed by a crescendo in August.”
