Liverpool have got to reassess their Milos Kerkez choice. The left-back is capturing everyone’s interest this season.
Liverpool have been connected with Milos Kerkez all season, and the Bournemouth left-back has put in some impressive displays. The Cherries as a whole are impressive, but Kerkez is one of their true standouts.
But, with all due respect, Bournemouth. Once a player genuinely excels there, he usually moves on, and connections to Liverpool are easy to create.
After all, Richard Hughes signed him to Bournemouth. Furthermore, with Andy Robertson’s contract coming to an end, Liverpool must consider a long-term option at left-back.
And, as Anfield Watch exclusively reported last month, Liverpool is in preliminary talks with Kerkez. However, they are not the only ones.
Manchester United are also major supporters of the player, and Kerkez is one of them as well. He grew raised as a Manchester United fan, which throws a wrench into Liverpool’s plans.
The enormous Milos Kerkez mistake
And maybe Liverpool should let Kerkez go to United. That is absolutely our thinking if Caught Offside’s most recent report is correct.
They report Bournemouth want £50 million for the young left-back, which is simply too much for us. Kerkez is still only 21 years old and has flaws in his game; the transition to a team like Liverpool is significant and not something that every player can handle.
Combine that with the unknown of how a young player will develop, and £50 million is a huge risk for your long-term left-back answer. It’s the kind of error United frequently makes, ironically.
However, there are other left-backs who are either more experienced or available at a lower cost. It would be another thing completely if Kerkez also offered homegrown status, which he does not.
Someone like Antonee Robinson would and, at 27, could provide years of service. A move for him appears to be a more safer option than Kerkez at £50 million.
At that price, the Hungarian believes Liverpool may make a huge mistake that they will later regret.
