Andreas Kornmayer, Liverpool’s current Head of Fitness and Conditioning, will be leaving the club at the conclusion of the season, according to a new report.
The 49-year-old is a close ally of outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who arrived at Anfield for his first full season in charge in 2016.
When Kornmayer initially arrived at the club, fans couldn’t believe his likeness to the boss, earning him the nickname ‘Kloppelganger’.
Kornmayer spent 15 years at Bayern Munich before being approached for the Liverpool post by Klopp, who credited his compatriot with preparing the Bavarians well during their 2012-13 treble-winning season.
He worked for the first team at the Allianz Arena under Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes, and Pep Guardiola after being promoted by Van Gaal, before being persuaded by Klopp to leave the Bundesliga for the Premier League.
Last year, Sky Sports stated that Kornmayer had a reputation for being ‘challenging to work with’.
He now leaves the club alongside EVEN MORE of Klopp’s trusty backroom personnel at the end of the current campaign according to David Lynch of This Is Anfield.
The departures of assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, and John Achterberg have already been announced.
Andreas Schlumberger, Head of Recovery and Performance, is also going, as is sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, who left at the end of the January transfer window.
HUGHES AND EDWARDS NEED A COMPLETE ANFIELD REVAMP.
It means a complete overhaul behind the scenes for incoming sporting director Richard Hughes, FSG’s Head of Football Michael Edwards, and new head coach Arne Slot, with numerous backroom hires now necessary.
Slot, 45, is set to bring assistant coach Sipke Hulsoff from Feyenoord, while Ruben Peeters, Head of Performance, and Etienne Reijnen, Technical Advisor, are also in line for posts at Anfield.
Compensation between the Rotterdam club and Liverpool has been roughly agreed upon, with Slot and his team requesting a sum of almost £10 million.
Liverpool’s injury problems have been well documented this season, with top players such as Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah missing multiple games.
