Liverpool will ‘absolutely’ sign two more players after signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, who hails the ‘ideal’ addition.
The Reds have negotiated a £10 million agreement with Chiesa, who will be the second signing of the Arne Slot era after Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, if the Italian winger passes his physical at Anfield.
However, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, who now heads a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, believes the Reds have other plans.
He told Football Insider: “If I were a Liverpool supporter, I’d be concerned.
“But my sources say there will absolutely be two coming in.
“There will be two new arrivals at Anfield; they’ve had a wonderful start to the season and played some good football.
“Everyone is on board with what’s going on, so there isn’t a big fan revolution going on; the Liverpool ship is very happy.
“Two more bodies through the door and that atmosphere will only get better.”
According to reports on Thursday, the Reds have expressed interest in both Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki and RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simikan as they attempt to strengthen their team before the transfer window closes.
L’Equipe said in a piece on Cherki’s future that Liverpool had ‘collected information’ on the 21-year-old, who had previously been connected with Chelsea and was considered to be close to a move to Fulham last week.
The report says:
‘The Lyon executives gave Cherki three options: find a new club that would provide €15 million [£12.6 million], like PSG and Fulham; extend several seasons at OL; or not play until the conclusion of his contract.
‘He had denied an extension offer at the start of the summer, but was persuaded to leave. Unless there is a (possible) offer from a new club in the coming days (Liverpool has inquired), Cherki might sign a new lease and register long-term with OL, rejoining Pierre Sage’s team.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg, RB Leipzig centre-back Simikan is also on Liverpool’s radar. However, Newcastle is currently making the biggest push for the 24-year-old, who is reportedly available for £42 million, as they seek alternatives to Marc Guehi.
Plettenburg posted on X: Newcastle are now seeking a deal to sign Mohamed Simakan until deadline day! Barcelona and Liverpool have both asked about him. Saudi Arabia is also showing a strong interest.
‘Leipzig is ready to negotiations for the 24-year-old versatile defender, but only with reasonable bids. Contract is good till 2027.’
Romano praised Liverpool for signing the ‘perfect match’ Chiesa before noting that he is unaware of any potential targets as things stand.
“For me, Chiesa would be a fantastic signing,” remarked the soccer player.
“He is the ideal fit for Liverpool; he is quick, and he deserves to play for a team that plays offensive football like Liverpool, while Juventus under Allegri were very conservative.
“In terms of other similar targets for Liverpool, I’m not aware of other players being considered at the moment,” according to him. “My name for Liverpool is Federico Chiesa.”
