Former Everton manager Keith Wyness believes Liverpool will not make their first signing until July.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising elite teams, stated Arne Slot is still in the “bedding-in process” at Anfield.
Slot was hired to succeed Jurgen Klopp near the end of the 2023-24 season and began work at Liverpool early this month.
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have also been appointed to lead the Reds’ new transfer staff.
Thiago, Joel Matip, and Adrian are all scheduled to be released on June 30, but Liverpool is yet to agree on a summer signing.
Liverpool will sign their first summer agreement next month, according to Wyness.
Wyness claimed that he has no reservations about the Reds’ capacity to build a “competitive side”.
He told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “They’re not under a PSR issue, so 30 June doesn’t mean anything to them in terms of incomings or outgoings.”
“They’ll know their aims, but based on what I’ve heard, I don’t expect to see any work from them until July.
“They’ll be putting their heads together to get the necessary data and understanding about their targets, ensuring that those players work together as a team.
“He will have complete support to do whatever he wants. It is usual for a new manager to go through a period of adjustment.
“Liverpool has a well-oiled machine, and he will fit in nicely.
“I have no concerns; they’ll have a very competitive team next season. Slot will strive to change things season after season.
“He will keep updating the squad. When Klopp was successful, he kept the same players for several seasons.
“Slot will try something different, and I think he’ll prove a great appointment.”
