Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, but the club is taking steps to ensure it retains a player who might be his long-term replacement.
Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t spoken about his future in a long time, and the general consensus is that he’ll play for Real Madrid next season rather than Liverpool.
“I’ve been at the club for 20 years,” Alexander-Arnold said last September. “I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”
It is hardly an exaggeration to say that those three players are Liverpool’s best, and the club is taking precautions to avoid a similar predicament with future players.
Ibrahima Konate announced in January that he has been given a contract extension to keep him with the club beyond the end of his current contract, which expires next June.
Conor Bradley’s present contract, meanwhile, is set to expire the following year, and it was revealed on Monday that talks are underway about new terms that would adequately reflect his position in Arne Slot’s team.
Bradley’s previous contract was signed in December 2023, before he made his Premier League debut, and he is now a full-fledged first-team player.
Liverpool’s desire to tie Bradley down to a new contract may also signal that the club is preparing for life without Alexander-Arnold. With Liverpool potentially losing one right-back for free this summer, there is an added reason to strengthen that part of the pitch, and securing Bradley’s services for the next three years will help achieve just that.
