Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to be in the transfer market this summer as they look for goal-scoring options.
The Premier League’s title challengers are expected to have a number of mutual targets with Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak seemingly an attractive option for both clubs.
Football Transfers (h/t 90min) has claimed that Liverpool are ‘leading’ Arsenal in their bid to sign Isak with the Gunners consequently shortlisting Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres as an alternative.
Gyokeres and Isak will both command high prices, with the former apparently seeking for around £59 million. The Newcastle star, on the other hand, will cost far more, with Sky Sports’ Pete Graves saying on the Transfer Talk podcast that the Magpies value the ex-Real Sociedad striker at £200 million.
Isak might be the one to go for.
Viktor Gyokeres is an outstanding player, and his contribution of almost 60 goals in 2024 makes for compelling reading. However, he is playing in a far inferior league in Portugal, and the 26-year-old’s performances have clearly deteriorated since Ruben Amorim’s departure for Manchester United in late last year.
Alexander Isak, meanwhile, could be the player to sign for the interested title contenders, given his stellar performance in the Premier League. As a result, either party that eventually signs him will be pleased with his consistency in England.
Having said that, £200 million is still a massive price tag for the Swedish international, and the player is unlikely to push for an exit, having been a key member of Eddie Howe’s side and being described as a ‘incredible’ forward by his coach.
Liverpool’s lucrative summer transfer might be greatly influenced by Mohamed Salah’s future and the departure of players such as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz. Arsenal, on the other hand, will have the funds to make a high-profile signing.
