Liverpool has the necessary cards to conclude a deal for one of Europe’s most promising young talents. Especially following his unexpected debut at Anfield.
Jorrel Hato raised a stir on Saturday when he was reportedly at Anfield to see Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town. We say ‘supposedly’ because it looked remarkably like him.
One of Hato’s close pals was also present (and seated in the same position), and Football Transfers believes that was Hato. In other words, we are convinced that it was him.
Naturally, this got the fans talking. Hato is a really promising prospect and one of the most talked-about young defenders in Europe.
So, why was he at Anfield? Maybe to sign with Liverpool? That seems doubtful, and to be honest, it probably has more to do with the Reds’ current large Dutch contingent.
But make no mistake: Liverpool will look into a deal for Hato. Every major club is, and they won’t be any different.
Especially since the Reds have a secret weapon that could propel them to the top spot.
Liverpool’s Jorrel Hato
Hato is, of course, a product of Ajax’s youth system and has been a long-time fan favorite. In 2023, he earned the Abdelhak Nouri trophy, which is awarded to Jong Ajax’s best player, or the club’s brightest promise.
And his manager for that? John Heitinga is the current Liverpool coach.
In actuality, Heitinga presented Hato with the award. Liverpool now has an obvious advantage if they decide to pursue the young defender.
We expect them to take a look, as will the majority of Europe. Ajax’s finances aren’t looking great right now following a string of dismal seasons, and the Reds will be looking into it.
Especially with all of the success in the Eredivisie. Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo have progressed from promising young players to crucial players at Liverpool (albeit Gravenberch came through the Bundesliga).
Perhaps Hato will be next. Liverpool can benefit from their coach’s familiarity with him and ability to bring out the best in him. And that could lead to a deal.
