Cody Gakpo has missed the past two Liverpool games due to a minor injury. Arne Slot’s side has been training in preparation for tomorrow’s Champions League match against PSG.
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo participated in an open practice at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby ahead of the Reds’ Champions League second leg against PSG.
The Dutch forward has missed the last two Liverpool matches due to a minor injury. Gakpo went to Paris for the first leg but was unable to participate since he had not recovered in time.
However, Gakpo might be back in contention for the second leg at Anfield tomorrow. If he is healthy, he would strengthen Liverpool’s attacking lines, since Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah struggled to hold the ball last week.
Gakpo’s increased physicality would be beneficial, and he has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 16 goals and assisting five times across all competitions. Arne Slot will provide a detailed update at his news conference, which is set for 5.15pm UK time (12.15pm ET).
“I think it was maybe the first time this season that I saw this tempo,” Slot remarked of PSG before the second leg. “I believe Paris Saint-Germain set the correct example. They played Lille with remarkable energy, leading 4-0 at halftime.
“Then they played against us, and I’ve never seen that level of energy in any game this season. When I look at the game against Paris Saint-Germain, I believe we need to ratchet up our intensity. And if I compare it to today’s game, we need to take three, four, five, six, or seven steps up in terms of intensity if we want to go to the next round.”
Everyone else who was supposed to participate in the training session appeared to be present and accurate. Young players James McConnell and Rio Ngumoha were also present.
Meanwhile, PSG has no injury concerns heading into the encounter. Luis Enrique has chosen a 22-man team, which includes Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, and Bradley Barcola.
“We’re going to demonstrate the type of team we are. It’s been a long time since we’ve lost; it’s up to us to demonstrate our individuality and power,” midfielder Vitinha stated immediately following last week’s setback to Liverpool. “We’re going to go there, we’re going to play a great game, we’re going to score and we’re going to go through, I’m sure of it.”
