Owen Beck appeared to have been bitten during Blackburn’s draw against Preston.
Owen Beck, a Liverpool loanee, seemed to be bitten during an explosive finale to the Lancashire derby between Blackburn Rovers and Preston North finale.
Beck has been a regular since moving to Championship club Blackburn for the season. On Sunday, he started his third game in a row as Rovers traveled to Deepdale to face Preston. And in the final moments of the game, the left-back was at the center of a significant incident.
Blackburn manager John Eustace told Sky Sports: “Obviously, that’s what happens in local derbies; emotions run high.” The television footage show that the child had taken a large piece off of his neck. That’s part of the Derby experience, I think.
“[Owen] said he was sent off for the tackle; he attempted to kick the ball away, and the lad made a big deal about it. It’s a harsh one, and we’re unhappy to have lost him for three games. We just need to make sure Owen is fine now.”
Speaking to reporters, Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I haven’t really seen it; he moved to clear the ball and probably caught the lad. He has a large bite mark on the back of his neck. It’s a shame the referee didn’t notice as well.
“He’s got a large bite mark. He has come in and shown the lads. He’s sad to have been sent out, and you wouldn’t expect him to be. He’s quiet and shaken up in there. I’m not sure if he spoke to the referee, and whether it was before or after the red. He might want to speak with the officials about it.
“It’s a terrible situation; nobody wants to be bitten. Everyone is angry about it; it’s not a pleasant scenario. I’m confident that the appropriate individuals will notice and address the situation.”
