Liverpool has confirmed the release of TEN players once their contracts expire at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are the most notable losses from the senior first-team.
Both struggled with injuries throughout the season, with Matip’s season ending in December after sustaining an ACL damage against Fulham.
Jurgen Klopp had hoped the club would offer the 32-year-old a new contract, but he was let go on the final day of the Premier League season at Anfield.
Matip leaves the club after eight years, during which he became a cult figure and played a key role in Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, and FA Cup victories, among other achievements.
Thiago, meanwhile, played only five minutes this season after missing the vast bulk of it due to a hip ailment.
He arrived from Bayern Munich in 2020, but has battled to stay healthy and earn such a large salary.
Flamengo and clubs in the Middle East are reportedly interested in signing the former Spain international, but an intriguing return to Barcelona has also opened up for the 33-year-old.
LEWIS, MUSIALOWSKI, AND FRAUENDORF RELEASED
Adam Lewis, 24, leaves after making only one appearance in 19 years on Merseyside.
The left-back joined the club’s U6s in the early 2000s and has been with the Reds for nearly 20 years, signing a long-term contract in 2019.
Mateusz Musialowski, 20, also leaves despite making his first-team debut under Klopp in March.
Musialowski was regarded as one of the top attacking prospects in his age group when the Reds recruited him from SMS Lodz in Poland in 2020.
The Liverpool No.92 played the final 16 minutes of Liverpool’s Europa League last-16 victory over Sparta Prague, replacing Bobby Clark after the midfielder sustained an injury.
Melkamu Frauendorf, 20, joined the club from Hoffenheim in 2020 and has played twice for the seniors, however he is now free to join another team. He has been a regular with the Reds’ youth and underage programs.
Meanwhile, academy players Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington are also leaving.
ADRIAN OFFERS NEW DEAL BY LIVERPOOL
Adrian San Miguel, Liverpool’s goalkeeper, will not be departing just yet, as the club has offered the veteran a new contract.
Adrian, 37, has made 26 appearances since joining the club as a free agent in 2019. He had been expecting to go, but his future plans have been put on hold after being granted new terms.
