Liverpool aim to recruit a ‘very productive’ forward with a goal per 84 minutes, with rival suitors lagging behind

Liverpool are expected to make additions to their first-team squad during the summer transfer window, as a new era begins at Anfield.

Arne Slot is expected to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the Reds dugout, while there have also been changes at the boardroom level.

The Liverpool roster includes a number of players who will be out of contract next year, so the Reds’ hierarchy will need to address this in the summer.

Mohamed Salah’s future is now uncertain, and while reports suggest he will stay, Liverpool will need to consider a long-term successor.

Over the last few days, one allegation has circulated stating the Reds are looking for a forward similar to Mohamed Salah.

The player in question is Union Saint-Giloise attacker Mohamed Amoura, and a recent report from Kicker suggests Liverpool could be among the frontrunners.

According to Kicker, Bundesliga club Wolfsburg is interested in signing the 23-year-old, but they will have ‘rich competition from the Premier League’ in Liverpool.

According to the report, the German club is ‘definitely not the favourite in the courtship of the dynamic and speedy goalscorer’.

Who is Liverpool’s target Mohamed Amoura?

Born in the Algerian city of Tahir in May 2000, Amoura began his football career with ES Setif in his home country.

In 2021, he joined Swiss outfit Lugano. According to The National News, players quickly began nicknamed him “little Salah” during training.

This is due to Amoura’s quickness, ball confidence, and career parallels with the Liverpool star, both of whom are North Africans who are on the rise after excelling in Switzerland.

Amoura joined Union Saint-Giloise last year and has had an excellent first season in Belgium, scoring and assisting against Liverpool in the Europa League.

To date, he has 23 goals and seven assists in 44 games across all competitions. Kicker has reported that he has one goal per 84 minutes this season.

The ‘extremely prolific’ Amoura is also an Algeria international, having represented his country in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

In March, Voetbal Belgie stated that Amoura’s current market value is €10 million, while his team wants €20 million.

This is still a reasonable sum for a Premier League club, and it is practically nothing for an elite team like Liverpool.
