Leon King is scheduled to depart Rangers on loan this evening.
This season, the defender has struggled for playing time, appearing in only five games for the first team.
New interim head coach Barry Ferguson has already approved the move for the 21-year-old, and Rangers News understands he will be named to Queen’s Park’s matchday squad for tomorrow’s Scottish Championship meeting with Raith Rovers.
We at Rangers News exclusively told you recently that King had changed agencies, moving from CAA Base to StormSportsX, indicating his desire to quit Ibrox.
Leon King will join Queen’s Park on loan
There was interested parties back in January and Salford were previously linked with King but it is with the Spiders that he will play his football this campaign after an agreement was struck this evening.
King’s chances, even under Fergie, would be limited with the likes of Robin Propper, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Clinton Nsiala ahead of him in the pecking order.
Queen’s Park manager Callum Davidson will be pleased to have the player – experienced in the Champions League and Europa League with the Light Blues – in his ranks as they look to push up the division.
The loan deadline for domestic players is still open and Queen’s Park have certainly taken advantage of the situation.
Leon King Rangers future after Queen’s Park loan is unclear
King, once considered a future star at the club, has played 42 times in total for Rangers since he made his first-team debut in 2020 in a League Cup tie against Falkirk.
We told you recently how Nils Koppen had issued a thinly veiled dig towards King and fellow kid Alex Lowry when he spoke about the academy.
Lowry has since departed for Wycombe Wanderers and King will play at another Glasgow club.
However it is not yet known whether the player may return at the end of the season or the Spiders might push for a permanent switch down the line.
