Leigh Bromby praised Joe Rodon’s performance for Leeds United last night as ‘great’, but believes another player deserved to be named ‘man of the match’ instead.
Daniel Farke’s side defeated his previous club Norwich City 1-0 thanks to Patrick Bamford’s early strike, but it was the performance of those on the other end that earned acclaim.
Norwich have some very dangerous attacking players, like Josh Sargent, Jonathan Rowe, and Gabriel Sara, who were kept quiet for much of the evening.
Rowe, who has 12 goals this season, was Norwich’s main threat, but he was kept quiet by Junior Firpo’s outstanding display at left-back.
Leigh Bromby, speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the match, believes Firpo deserved the player of the match award just ahead of Rodon, despite the fact that the entire back four was ‘outstanding’.
Bromby named Firpo the man of the match.
He stated, “He was excellent, he won all of his headers, and I believe the only thing that pips him to man of the match is Firpo’s previous standards.”
“It was a fantastic performance by him [Firpo], but Joe sets such high standards that we’re probably overlooking it because we expect it from him. He was outstanding tonight, keeping a clean sheet, and the entire back four performed admirably.

Rodon’s performance last night is something we’ve come to expect since he joined from Tottenham. He consistently proves that he is too good for this division.
Firpo, however, had a disappointing first half of the season due to injury, but has improved since receiving a consistent run in the side.
Everyone will be talking about the 27-year-old’s four assists since the turn of the year, but it was the other side of his game that should earn him respect, as he kept one of the league’s greatest wingers quiet.
