Leicester City FFP points deduction charges arise during Leeds United’s promotion race

Latest Leeds United news as a shocking report that Leicester City had broken the FFP regulations emerges.

According to sources, if Leicester City returns to the Premier League immediately, they could face a points deduction next season.

The Foxes presently lead the Championship, with Leeds only five points behind them with 11 games remaining. Enzo Maresca’s squad has seen their massive lead narrow in recent weeks after losing their last three games.

According to The Sun, City is facing questioning from Premier League and Championship clubs over two violations of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. Clubs believe City exceeded the Premier League’s £105 million loss limit for the three years ending last season.

Rivals also fear Leicester will exceed the £83 million in aggregate losses they can incur over the years finishing with the current season. The report does, however, state that promotion back to the Premier League could result in them avoiding any sanctions.

Leicester has yet to reveal its financial results for the fiscal year ending in 2023. Everton and Nottingham Forest are facing penalty for alleged violations of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules (PSR) during the same period.

Both teams were required to submit their 2022/23 figures by December 31, and Leicester was reported to be in the same position, but their relegation in May meant they did not have to divulge their numbers.

City are presently five points ahead of Leeds United in third place, and they remain top of the Championship standings despite losing their last three games.
