According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United intend to outbid Marseille with a new formal bid for Jonathan Rowe.
The outlet said on their website on August 12 that the bid will be closer to Norwich’s appraisal of the young attacker, and there is now hope at Elland Road that they will win the race to sign him as they “officially” throw their hat in.
The Canaries want £15 million for the 21-year-old, who is thought to be eager to transfer to France.
However, the Whites have also been in communication with his representatives, aiming to sell him on the project under Daniel Farke and the possibility of Premier League play next season, since he sees himself at a better level than the Championship.
Daniel Farke to succeed Crysencio Summerville Leeds United
Leeds United have made some significant acquisitions this summer, with Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, and Joe Rothwell already confirmed.
However, they have probably lost a lot more in star players Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Glen Kamara, as well as other roster choices.
Farke believes he needs three more to challenge for promotion [The Athletic, 5 August], and Rowe appears to be one of them.
The 3-3 draw with promoted Portsmouth at the weekend has only reinforced the need to strengthen adequately before the deadline, and it appears that the outcome may have prompted the club to take serious action with Rowe.
He missed Norwich’s defeat to Oxford due to rumors over his future, but with 12 league goals in his breakout season last season, he might be an important addition to Farke’s squad.
It will undoubtedly be easier said than done given that he may prefer the Ligue 1 option and will not be cheap.
But, with £15 million apparently on the table at Crystal Palace for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi [Alan Nixon, 11 August], it appears that the funds are available to secure the Rowe deal.
