According to the Belfast Telegraph, Sunderland have offered £10 million for defender Trai Hume, who is also a target for Leeds United.
According to the report (back page, 19 July), the Black Cats have no desire to sell the 22-year-old full-back and will do everything possible to keep him.
Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Leicester City are also interested in signing Hume (Leeds Live, June 17).
Leeds United’s Hume desires
Following their failed bid to regain promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United will consider 2018 as a critical season. They have a roster capable of competing again, but in order to get to the next level, they need some new stars.
With Connor Roberts and Luke Ayling both leaving Elland Road, Leeds badly need help at right-back. Hume, a Northern Ireland international, appeared in every single Championship game for Sunderland last season. While they finished in 16th place, Hume was undoubtedly one of their most memorable names.
Obviously, competing against Premier League opponents will be difficult, but if Leeds can provide the teenager with continuous first-team football, he might rapidly become the focal point of this line-up. Furthermore, given Leeds’ offensive style of play, you’d have to believe that this would provide him with a creative avenue to truly shine.
In any case, it appears that this will be a long-term endeavor for everyone concerned.
