Leeds want to sign a Manchester United midfielder, according to reports

Leeds United are interested in signing Hannibal Mejbri, a Manchester United midfielder, according to The Daily Mail.

The newspaper stated on Wednesday (21 August, page 61) that, while Leeds is keeping an eye on the 21-year-old, Burnley is in pole position to sign him.

Mejbri spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Sevilla, appearing just six times before returning to Old Trafford.

Will Leeds United sign Hannibal Mejbri?

Daniel Farke is appealing for reinforcements to be signed before the August 30 deadline, with the manager hoping to add at least four new players before the window closes.

Georginio Rutter’s £40 million departure to Brighton is only the latest departure from Elland Road [BBC Sport], with the Whites yet to replace the multitude of stars who left during the summer window.

Farke has been left with a lack of depth in various areas of the pitch, including midfield.

Mejbri’s prior experience in the Championship with Birmingham City, where he made 41 appearances and scored his only goal with a sensational free kick, suggests he could be a speedy loan answer.

The only bad aspect of the Tunisian international is his disciplinary record. He had ten yellow cards during his stint at St Andrew’s Stadium and is sometimes accused of being overly eager to recover the ball.

The Whites will, of course, need to act swiftly if they are to sign the Manchester United jewel, since other clubs are keen before the window closes, but this is not news at Elland Road.

Leeds left things relatively late in the transfer window, causing dissatisfaction among Elland Road fans.
