Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has revealed a long list of concerns that hindered his team against Hull City.
Daniel Farke has highlighted the gravity of Leeds United’s problems both before and after their 3-1 victory over Hull City, and the manager is pleased with his team’s tenacity. Leeds were not at their best against the Tigers, but they won with a late Crysencio Summerville penalty and a Dan James goal from halfway in the dying seconds as Hull chased an equaliser from a corner.
Despite his team’s lack of excellence, Farke was pleased with their performance, complimenting their character in winning the game. After the contest, he also disclosed the problems his team had encountered in the lead-up to the game.
“At this time in the season, three points are precious. Because of the schedule we have, several of my guys played their third game in six days, as most of them played for their national teams on Tuesdays or Wednesdays last week,” Farke noted.
“At the moment, you need to dig in and grind out results against a strong Hull side. I’m satisfied with our second half performance and that we didn’t lose our nerve. It was a tight game, but I’m pleased. Hull have nothing to lose, and they have a lot of talented players who can step up to the challenge. When an opponent misses a chance to end the game, they see an opportunity.
“It was the third game in six days for several of my guys, and we had a lot of issues on the field. Glen Kamara did somewhat poorly, but I wanted him to play this game. Cree Summerville had some issues, we had a brief morning practice, and Joe Rodon experimented with pain relievers since he had some back spasms.
“Sam Byram told me at halftime that he couldn’t sprint anymore. Thank goodness Jamie Shackleton has returned, but he has been out of game rhythm for a long time, and I wanted to keep Sam on the pitch for as long as possible.
After Ipswich scored a late winner to take top of the table moments before kickoff at Elland Road, Leeds needed three points to reclaim an automatic promotion spot. Farke will hope his players can relax in the coming days before a stiff test against play-off contenders Coventry City on Saturday lunchtime.
