Leeds are gearing up for a busy summer in the transfer market, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Leeds United are bracing for a busy summer of incomings and outgoings in the transfer market as they attempt to gain promotion to the Premier League for the second time.
After missing out on promotion in the Championship play-off final, the Whites will need to adjust the books to stay within PSR restrictions, and some significant outgoings are expected to help United comply with those criteria.
Leeds also have a number of returning loan players to offload, but with multiple exits, Daniel Farke’s side will need to recruit well in order to fight at the top of the Championship table.
As a result, Leeds Live has compiled a list of all the probable incomings and outgoings that Leeds may consider this summer as they seek to correct last season’s mistakes.
Incomings
Ben Johnson
Johnson is likely to become available for free transfer next month unless he agrees to new terms with West Ham United. The Hammers have offered the former England under-21 international a new contract, but the prospect of regular first-team action may tempt him away from East London.
The 24-year-old made only 14 Premier League appearances last season, and with Leeds looking for a new right-back this summer, the move might benefit all sides.
Joe Rodon
Joe Rodon, who impressed for Leeds on loan from Tottenham last season, is expected to leave this summer.
The question remains whether the Whites can persuade Rodon to return to the Championship for another season despite potential Premier League interest. Steve Cooper’s appointment at Leicester City might lead to a transfer for Rodon, whom he previously managed at Swansea City.
Alfie Gilchrist
Gilchrist got into the Chelsea first squad last season and can play anywhere among the back four. The 20-year-old made 20 appearances for the Blues in all competitions last season and could be available on loan this summer.
Oliver Skipp
Leeds could be looking for a central midfielder, and Skipp could leave Tottenham this summer.
The former England under-21 international midfielder struggled to find regular first-team play last season, although he had a successful loan spell at Norwich under Leeds manager Daniel Farke.
Callum O’Hare
Callum O’Hare, one of the Championship’s most exciting offensive midfielders, will be available on free transfer. He scored ten goals for Coventry City last season, and the 26-year-old is eager to advance his career.
The Aston Villa youth graduate has been compared to Jack Grealish, and Leeds would struggle to find greater value in the transfer market this summer.
Karamoko Dembele
The former Celtic winger, who made his debut for the Scottish champions as a youth, is free to leave French club Stade Brest this summer following a successful loan spell at Blackpool last season.
The 21-year-old scored nine goals and assisted 14 times for the Tangerines last season, and given the hoopla around the former England youth international in his adolescence, it could prove to be a cost-effective signing in Leeds’ need for a new wide-man.
Outgoings
Rasmus Kristensen failed to impress at Roma during his loan stay last season and has no future at Elland Road, especially since Cody Drameh was granted new terms after his loan spell at Birmingham City.
The Danish international has three years left on his present contract at Elland Road, and the Whites could do with getting the 26-year-old off their books.
Diego Llorente
Similarly, Llorente did not impress enough during his loan term at Roma to earn a permanent move, and the Spanish international defender will return to Elland Road with no future at the club.
He, too, is under contract until 2027, and Leeds will aim to sell him this summer to reduce the burden on their salary cost.
Junior Firpo
Junior Firpo returned to the Leeds team last season, but his Premier League salary and one-year deal make him a target for sale this summer.
The Dominican international has sparked interest from La Liga teams, and a return to Spain this summer might benefit all parties involved.
Max Wober
who impressed during a loan spell with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach last season, is now a member of Austria’s EURO 2024 squad.
Gladbach want to re-sign Wober, but with three years remaining on his contract at Elland Road, Leeds would prefer a permanent departure than another loan move.
Ilya Gruev
Gruev made his way into the Leeds squad near the conclusion of the season, but speculation about a return to Germany, where he played for Werder Bremen, persists.
Champions League Finalists Borussia Dortmund has been connected with a move for the Bulgaria international, and if that interest translates into a serious bid, it could be too good to pass up for both the player and the club.
Sam Greenwood
Greenwood joined Middlesbrough on loan last season, but the club decided not to make it permanent.
The 22-year-old has not done enough to deserve a sustained run in Leeds’ midfield, and with two years remaining on his contract, it may be best for all sides if the former Sunderland and Arsenal youth departs this summer.
Marc Roca
Marc Roca’s loan at Real Betis is likely to become permanent, although the timing of the deal has remained uncertain.
Nonetheless, it would be a great surprise if the Spanish international remained with Leeds United at the end of the summer.
Crysencio Summerville
Summerville was Leeds’ greatest player last season, but with the current interest in the Dutch youth international, as well as the Whites’ need to sell players to comply with PSR restrictions, a summer exit appears quite plausible.
Brighton, Liverpool, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle are among the clubs interested in the 22-year-old, who scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists last season. According to reports, Leeds could sell him for £35-40 million this summer.
Wilfred Gnonto
Last summer, a number of clubs expressed interest in Gnonto, but a deal for the Italian international forward never materialised.
He remained at Leeds and scored nine goals in all competitions during a season in which he may have fallen short of the expectations placed on him in the second division.
Nonetheless, at 20 years old, Gnonto still has a lot of potential to give any team, and he is one of Leeds’ most sellable assets this summer.
Jack Harrison
who impressed on loan at Everton last season, is expected to return to the club this summer for another loan contract. The 27-year-old’s contract has a clause that allows him to join Premier League clubs on loan, which means Leeds will miss out on a transfer fee for him again this summer.
Georginio Rutter
Georginio Rutter has garnered interest from clubs in Germany and France after resuming his best form for the Whites last season. Leeds’ record signing is someone the club does not want to lose, but if any bids are made, they will have to make a decision.
Joe Gelhardt
For whatever reason, Gelhardt has failed to regularly hit the grade required to secure a spot in Leeds’ starting XI.
The 22-year-old has three years left on his contract, and with the arrival of Mateo Joseph, as well as proven forwards Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, and Rutter, his chances of playing first-team football at Elland Road appear slim.
