Leeds United’s schedule comparable to Leicester City and Ipswich following second promotion blow

The latest Leeds United news as a 0-0 draw against Sunderland meant that the Whites could not make the most of Leicester’s stunning midweek loss to Millwall as the end of the season approaches.

For the second time in a row, Leeds United squandered the opportunity to move to the top of the Championship table in what has become a nail-biting fight to the finish for promotion.

Daniel Farke’s side faced mid-table Sunderland at Elland Road on Tuesday night, trying to rebound from a setback to Coventry City just a few days earlier. However, the Black Cats frustrated the team, and they could only gain one point from the game, which ended 0-0.

The news of Leicester City’s shock defeat against Millwall would have reached Leeds in the dying minutes of the game (the Whites began off 15 minutes after their opponents), but the team was unable to find the winning goal. Farke has criticised several of the choices made against his team on the night.

Picking up just one point has allowed Leicester off the hook, and they remain at the top. Leeds moved ahead of Ipswich, who played Watford at Portman Road last night.

Leeds fans will have been watching that game, as well as Leicester and Ipswich’s remaining fixtures. Following Ipswich’s midweek fixture, the Foxes will still have a game in hand on both teams.

Here’s a closer look at all three teams’ remaining matchups before the season ends. Each opponent’s current league status is displayed in brackets, with the average league position of the whole run-in at the bottom of the list.
