Luke Ayling basically left Leeds United in January after securing a loan move to Middlesbrough for the final six months of his contract, and he has now agreed to terms with the Teessiders.

Leeds are one game away from regaining Premier League status, which would be a huge relief for the 49ers as they prepare for a demanding summer.

The team needs to address loan players and their prospective permanent deals, while Luke Ayling and a number of others have already confirmed their departure due to expired contracts.

Luke Ayling signed a permanent contract with Middlesbrough this week.

According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, right-back Ayling has agreed to sign a permanent contract with loan club Middlesbrough.

The 32-year-old spent the second half of the season on Teesside, where he excelled as a marauding wing-back, returning to peak form with eight assists in half a season.

With his Leeds contract expiring, Michael Carrick will make the Leeds man his first free transfer acquisition this summer.

This news comes amid the announcement that former Manchester United midfielder Carrick has agreed to a new deal to continue his excellent work.

His form at Middlesbrough has made him a fan favourite under Carrick, and a long-term contract has become a priority at the Riverside.

Ayling leaves Elland Road with 268 appearances, 11 goals, 21 assists, and a Championship winners’ medal.

Ayling deserves a permanent agreement from Boro this week.

When it came to him departing on loan, it appeared like Ayling’s legs had given out and he needed to leave.

He moved to Middlesbrough to work with a great coach who knows how to get the most out of him, and the results have been impressive.

As a result, he must sign a new contract there, as he is clearly popular with both the fans and the manager.
