We are thrilled to welcome Don Goodman, an EFL specialist and former striker, as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the most pressing issues at Elland Road.
Don Goodman believes Burnley defender Connor Roberts is a “top, top player” who could profit from a January move to Leeds United. Roberts is in his third season at Turf Moor after joining from Swansea City, and he has made 86 appearances so far.
The Wales international played an important role in the Clarets’ promotion last season, earning a spot on the Championship Team of the Season. However, Roberts has only started eight of Burnley’s 20 Premier League games this season, with Vitinho becoming Vincent Kompany’s regular right-back.
According to The Mirror [11 January, page 53], Burnley is open to offers for the 28-year-old this month, as the defender has not played since October.
According to the source, Leeds are interested in Roberts, and the player is open to a move to Elland Road. Discussing the potential deal with MOT Leeds, Goodman stated: “I believe it would be a beneficial move for both the player and the team.
“I’ve seen Connor’s improvement at Swansea firsthand, and he’s gotten better and better.
“That culminated last season, when he was simply magnificent for Burnley under Vincent Kompany.
“He’s an excellent player at both ends of the pitch. He has schooled himself and is a genuine top-tier full-back at Championship level.
“He isn’t receiving any opportunities in the Premier League right now, therefore it’s better for him to leave.
“I’m born and bred Leeds United, so I’d say there’s no better place for him to go than Elland Road!”
