According to Football Insider, Leeds United is going to great lengths this summer to keep teenage phenom Archie Gray.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Whites would be hopeful Gray decides to stay at the club and help them battle for promotion again next season.
Football Insider reported on May 28 that Leeds will do “everything they can” to keep the 18-year-old at Elland Road beyond this summer.
The England U-21 international is one of the Whites’ most sought-after assets, but several of their key players are anticipated to be targeted following their 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the Championship play-off final.
According to sources, the West Yorkshire club is preparing to launch a bid to keep him at his hometown club, putting him at the heart of their plan to return to the Premier League the following season.
The youngster is under contract until June 2028, having signed an extension in January 2024.
Archie Gray could stay with Leeds United next season.
Gray has always been regarded as a top talent behind the scenes at Thorp Arch, but he had a breakout season last year.
He appeared in 52 games across all competitions, starting 47 of them, and played both midfield and right-back.
However, Leeds are open to bids for players such as Gray this summer, as the club has to sell players to balance its books.
Football Insider reported on May 26 that the Whites must recoup an astronomical £150 million in player sales after failing to earn promotion.
However, O’Rourke suggested that Gray may decide to stay in West Yorkshire to support the club’s goal of a return to the Premier League next season.
