Graeme Bailey has revealed that Leeds United are interested in signing Burnley defender Charlie Taylor during the January transfer window.

The Elland Road full-back began his senior career in 2011, making three games for the Whites. He went on to play another 100 games for Leeds before leaving on a free transfer to Burnley in 2017.

The HITC journalist is aware of Leeds fans’ conflicting sentiments about one of Vincent Kompany’s main men, but with Djed Spence’s loan deal ending six months early, there is an opportunity at full-back.

“A left back is someone they want,” he remarked on Thursday (4 January) to the One Leeds Fan channel.

“In terms of people returning, I keep hearing Charlie Taylor’s name. I know he’s a player Leeds fans dislike, but didn’t he leave rather early? “I believe we’ll see a left-back come in.”

    A depressing link
Taylor is a seasoned Premier League and Championship defender who has appeared in over 300 games for Burnley and Leeds.

Daniel Farke is unlikely to turn down a sensible mind, especially in such a young dressing room, with promotion on the cards for the latter. With Luke Ayling said to be departing Elland Road, an older player could be crucial if Leeds are to be successful this season.

However, after allowing a great prospect in Spence to return to his parent club after only six months on loan, it is understandable that some fans were skeptical of the deal.

The loan of Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur and permanent transfers of Joel Piroe, Glen Kamara, and Georginio Rutter show that the Whites are capable of luring much greater names.
