Leeds United now have one of the youngest squads in the Championship.
According to transfermarkt, only last night’s opponents Sunderland have a younger average age among the players employed this season, with Leeds presently at 24.1.
Leeds will want to exploit this bright young group in the Premier League, but they will now have to work hard to achieve promotion.
Leeds, as is always the risk with a youthful side, has felt the pressure of the chase for the top two in recent weeks, picking up only five points from their last four games.
If Leeds fail to gain promotion, clubs from the Premier League and throughout Europe would undoubtedly circle like vultures. To stay in the Championship, they would have to make player sales.
Summerville and Gray are now valued more highly than Liverpool’s Quansah.
Leeds’ promotion push this season has been built around a number of U23 youngsters playing crucial roles.
Georginio Rutter has been the main creator this season, with 15 assists, while Ethan Ampadu has been a rock in both midfield and defence, while also wearing the captain’s armband.
Willy Gnonto is also one of Leeds’ most promising young players, but it is Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray who have garnered the most attention this season.
Summerville has 17 goals and eight assists in the Championship and is a candidate for the division’s POTY, while Gray has been outstanding in his breakout season. He has been nominated for the league’s YPOTS.
And, according to the most recent CIES Football Observatory Post, both Summerville and Gray are worth more over £28 million. The former is slightly higher, at £32.5 million.
Despite the fact that they both play in the Championship, their valuations are higher than those of several top-tier young players, like Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah and Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez.
Those two have been regulars for their respective teams this season, demonstrating how effective Summerville and Gray have been for Leeds.
Leeds needs promotion to retain Summerville and Gray.
As previously said, if Leeds fail to be promoted, they will simply have to sell some of their key players, as parachute payments in the second season following relegation are decreased.
Summerville and Gray are perhaps Leeds’ most valuable assets, with a number of major clubs circling ahead of the summer.
Gray is generating interest from clubs like as Borussia Dortmund, and given that he has only recently signed a contract, Leeds could want a fair amount.
Summerville, meantime, has a lot of top-level Premier League interest, and with Leeds rejecting a £20 million bid last summer, it will be intriguing to see what type of cost they want this time.
