Southampton enters Sunday’s play-off final with Leeds United at Wembley with a tiny psychological advantage, having completed the double over the Whites during the regular season.
Danny Mills has given a warning to his old club Leeds United ahead of the Championship play-off final against Southampton. The Whites travel to Wembley Stadium on Sunday with the goal of securing an immediate return to the Premier League.
United’s confidence is high following their great performance in the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Norwich City. Daniel Farke’s team blasted the Canaries apart, cruising to a comfortable 4-0 victory.
In the final standings, United and Southampton were separated by just one position and three points. However, the Saints had a tiny psychological advantage after winning both regular-season meetings with the Whites.
Mills, an ex-Whites and Manchester City defender, told Sky Sports: “Leeds will be going to Wembley hoping they don’t freeze and that they can perform on the big occasion.” Leeds are obviously the favourites, although Southampton have also performed well this season. It will be a tremendous game, entirely sold out, with a rowdy atmosphere, I am certain.
“Leeds need to return to the Premier League, simple as that. We’ve seen on numerous occasions that it’s not just about the match; it’s about how you handle the situation, and tonight will be no exception. Whoever handles the situation best will most likely advance and earn the privilege to play in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether defender Sam Byram (hip) and attacker Patrick Bamford (knee) will be available for selection in the Final. Farke is anticipated to deliver an update on the team during his pre-match press conference later this week.
