Leeds United have been connected to Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele.
Nottingham Forest coach Andy Reid has hinted that Andrew Omobamidele will leave the City Ground in January, with talks of a move to Leeds United or promotion rivals Sheffield United. Both the Whites and the Blades have been connected with the 22-year-old centre back this month following his inability to secure a regular spot in the high-flying Forest club this season.
Omobamidele is familiar with United manager Daniel Farke, having previously played for Norwich City. Farke gave Omobamidele his first Premier League start in 2021, and the Republic of Ireland international agreed to a £10 million move to the City Ground in 2023.
The defender has only appeared 11 times in all competitions this season, trailing Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo, and Morato in the Forest team. With a potential long-term injury to Pascal Struijk to consider, Leeds may need to act quickly to sign a new centre-back.
Omobamidele appears to be on the move this month and available, with Reid implying that a move is necessary.
Reid told Off The Ball: “It’s been a challenging period for him, and opportunities have been restricted. He needs to go play football; I’m sure he’ll find something that allows him to get on the pitch.
“I worked with him at the Ireland under-18s; he’s a fantastic young man, and I believe he’ll have a successful career. “But he needs to play some football.”
Leeds continue to play it cool in the January transfer window and are holding to the message they expect a quiet month, but should Struijk’s injury prove worse than feared when he goes for a new scan next week, the chances of a movement in the window will increase significantly.
