Leeds United news as the Championship title race heats up after another weekend of twists and turns.
Leeds United’s Championship winning streak came to an end on Saturday when Daniel Farke’s side was held to a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town.
With Ipswich Town’s win at Plymouth Argyle, the Whites have slid to third place, while Southampton’s stunning win at Birmingham City has reduced the gap between fourth and league leaders Leicester City to eight points.
There are still 11 games to play, and the title race is now heating up following Leicester’s dominance for the majority of the season. On Saturday, the Foxes suffered their third consecutive defeat, this time to QPR, who won 2-1.
Stoke City (H) – Tuesday, March 5
Leeds will have a brief turnaround, as Stoke visit Elland Road on Tuesday night. Steven Schumacher had been one of the league’s poorest performers in recent weeks, but their 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough keeps them in the bottom three by one goal.
With all three of Leicester and Ipswich playing on the same night, Leeds simply must get the most points in order to secure their spot in the top two.
Sheffield Wednesday (A) – Friday, March 8.
Another Yorkshire derby on the road for the Whites, this time against a team fighting for survival at the bottom of the league. Wednesday’s chances of staying up have improved with three wins in their last four, including Saturday’s victory against bottom-placed Rotherham.
Again, Farke will be optimistic about his team’s prospects of securing three points.
Millwall (H) – Sunday, March 17.
Back at Elland Road, Millwall will aim to disrupt Leeds’ promotion campaign before the international break. Neil Harris has won the opening two games of his second term with the Lions, including a stunning 2-1 victory over Southampton.
Leeds defeated Millwall 3-0 in September, and fans will be looking for a repeat of that victory.
Watford (A) – Friday, March 29
The Easter weekend begins with a trip to Vicarage Road, where Leeds face mid-table Watford. The Hornets have had a rough season, losing six of their last eight games in all competitions.
Leeds will be hoping to continue their misery, as all dreams of making the play-offs have faded.
Hull City (H) – Monday, April 1
Three days later, on Easter Monday, Leeds host Liam Rosenior’s side at Elland Road in front of Sky Sports cameras. The game versus the Tigers is possibly the most difficult of the five, as they presently hold the final play-off berth.
