Leeds United are set to make a new signing soon after it was announced that one of their players will be leaving Elland Road permanently over the weekend.
So far, the Whites have focused solely on outgoings. Marc Roca and Archie Gray have departed the club permanently, with Diego Llorente and Charlie Cresswell poised to follow suit soon.
Sonny Perkins, Sam Greenwood, and Jack Harrison have all gone on loan, while Liam Cooper and Cody Drameh are officially free agents. Ian Poveda is a winger, and Jamie Shackleton has joined Sheffield United.
Plenty of upheaval is likely, with the futures of a number of Leeds players still being discussed. The most recent departure from Leeds is a player who made only three appearances for the club under Daniel Farke.
On Sunday, Leeds made their third permanent sale of the summer.
Kristof Klaesson signed a contract with Polish club Rakow until summer 2027. It comes after only four games in three years, since joining the club in 2021.
While Klaesson was frequently seen on matchdays, he primarily served as cover for Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow. He was a regular on the bench while Darlow recovered from a thumb injury around the Christmas period.
Klaesson only appeared three times after Meslier was sent off against Preston. He has departed permanently, and the Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue provided an update on X, stating that a replacement is due soon.
He stated, “Kristoffer Klaesson joins Raków Częstochowa in Poland.” Leeds are anticipated to bring in a back-up goalkeeper soon to replace the Norwegian.
Who could Leeds look at to replace Klaesson?
Leeds will most likely seek to replace Klaesson without investing a single euro. When funds are limited, it makes little sense to invest money on a player who will be a third-choice option at Leeds.
So, either Leeds makes a signing that brings a youngster to the club or, more likely, they bring in an older head. One who can provide cover and know-how to Meslier and Darlow, potentially a free agent.
It will be intriguing to see who Leeds signs over the coming few days and weeks, as the focus will undoubtedly shift to additions this summer. So yet, only Joe Rodon has signed a permanent contract.
