Leeds United may see a handful of players leave Elland Road this summer.
The emergence of Red Bull as Leeds United’s new jersey sponsor, paired with their presence as investors, has reduced the likelihood of too many exits from Elland Road this summer. The jersey agreement is said to be one of the largest in EFL history, which will assist the Whites achieve Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
While that may be the case, Leeds’ financial reports over the last two seasons indicate that some departures will be required to help balance the books and allow for new faces to come in, giving manager Daniel Farke the best possible chance to lead the club to the Premier League with promotion next season.
Among those who could leave is defender Charlie Cresswell, who has not had many opportunities under Farke and is on the fringes of the first team squad. Cresswell may have signed a four-year contract less than a year ago, but reports say the club is open to receiving offers for the player.
Those offers could soon start coming in. According to journalist Alan Nixon, German clubs Hannover 96 and Hertha Berlin, as well as French Ligue 1 club Toulouse, are interested in Cresswell, paving the way for a possible move to Europe. Coventry City has also been connected with a bid for Cresswell since January, with a reported fee ranging from £3 million to £4 million.
While the probable sale of Crysencio Summerville for more than £30 million will be the biggest gain to Leeds in terms of reducing the PSR deficit, the numbers indicated for Cresswell would also be a substantial help in allowing the Whites to freshen up their team.
