Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has indicated that the club’s goal for this season is to be in the Championship promotion race, competing with teams of Leeds United’s caliber.
Ilicali named Tim Walter as new head coach at the MKM Stadium earlier this week, replacing the popular and highly regarded Liam Rosenior on Humberside.
Rosenior’s departure was rather surprising given Hull’s seventh-place result previous season, when they nearly missed out on the playoffs despite scoring 70 points.
Nonetheless, the ambitious Tigers owner feels Walter is the guy to take Hull one step further in 2024/25, as the club prepares to return to the Premier League after nearly a decade away.
“I will not promise where we will finish, but I promise we will give everything, and Tim will do the same,” Ilicali stated at Walter’s debut.
“You can’t forecast football, but every position over tenth is a win for us. Top ten is our definition of success, but we want to be in the top six. We shall strive for that.”
Walter, however, brings coaching experience in Germany’s first and second tiers, as well as a time as Bayern Munich’s reserve team manager.
“I was made in Germany, but I am made for England,” the 48-year-old stated.
“Our vision fits wonderfully, and I am delighted to be here. My thinking will perfectly complement the style of English football.
“We are on the same page, and there was a wonderful vibe with Acun. We can work well together and achieve achievement. It’s the perfect match.”
Due to Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), City will be limited to spending roughly £15 million in the transfer window this summer, but they remain ambitious and are expected to earn finances through the probable departures of star duo Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene.
