Leeds United will add Patrick Bamford, Brenden Aaronson, and Max Wober to the group that beat Harrogate Town in a pre-season friendly on Friday night, after Daniel Farke addressed the media.
Three players will quickly join the Leeds United side that defeated Harrogate Town last night. Patrick Bamford, Brenden Aaronson, and Max Wober are all set to join the squad for their upcoming training camp in Germany, despite missing Friday’s preseason triumph.
Daniel Farke’s team overcame their League Two opponents 3-0 in their first public friendly of the summer, but the roster comprised five young players with no senior experience. Bamford is currently recovering from the injury that terminated his season prematurely, and Aaronson’s and Wober’s summers have been delayed due to international commitments.
“We also need them in the next weeks, there’s no doubt about this,” Farke claimed. “Patrick underwent minor surgery following his injury at the end of last season and was doing a lot of individual rehabilitation.
“He was partially brought back into team training this week, and this game came too soon. He will undoubtedly accompany us to Germany, and he hopes to be able to carry the majority of the workload during training sessions.
“We’ll see if we can include him in one of the two games. My gut instinct is that he’s just preparing for the final friendly, but we’ll see. It would be fantastic to have him for at least a few minutes in one of the two games.
“Brenden arrived yesterday after a long flight, three days sooner than expected. You could tell he was eager to get back on the field and back to work, but I wanted him to take at least two and a half weeks off following the competition.
“He had an individual session today, his first. He will join the team for the first time tomorrow, flying with us to Germany.
“It’s also fantastic to have him back since he’s in good shape and really determined. It’s great to have him back.
“Max will arrive tomorrow.” We’ll start with some testing, and ideally, by Sunday, [he’ll be] on the pitch with the first team. It was crucial to get these guys back.”
Aaronson was expected to return to Leeds next season and compete for minutes at Elland Road from the beginning of the summer. However, until Friday night, Wober’s future had been uncertain following his acrimonious loan leave 12 months ago.
Barring a remarkable turn of circumstances, Liam Cooper’s time at Elland Road appears to be gone, thus a left-footed defender would be beneficial to the existing squad. Due to a lack of depth in the full-back positions, Wober would also play left-back.
Farke will not comment on transfers, but he realizes that some fans would be alarmed by the fact that 15 senior players have left since Wembley, compared to three new signings. Archie Gray and Glen Kamara were the only two players who played a significant role last season, but the boss believes in his recruitment department.
“As long as a player has not signed for us and is not my player, I don’t comment on any rumours or speculations because I totally respect players, at the moment, are not our players and we will just speak about the players who are here,” stated the manager. “Also, especially with our club, with a few outgoings, a few contracts running out, and Archie’s transfer, as well as Glen Kamara’s, everyone is a little concerned.
“That is quite natural, but we are on the right track, and I completely trust our key individuals. We can also provide additional help for this team.
“First and foremost, we have the boys back, including Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober. This will be advantageous to us, and there are still a few areas that we can and should improve.
“We all know this, but we are in good conversations, and certainly, it would have been easier if we had won the final and qualified for the Premier League. From a financial standpoint, we might be more proactive in the market.
“This was also one of the disappointments and after we lost the final we knew there were financial necessities and we have to be even a bit more patient until we have the group together, but overall we are in a good path.”
