Mateo Joseph, a Leeds United striker, could depart Elland Road before Monday’s 11 p.m. transfer deadline, according to El Desmarque.
The Spanish news agency stated on February 3 that Real Betis is trying hard to recruit a striker before the La Liga market ends at the same time.
Cucho Hernandez, the Columbus Crew striker, is believed to be Betis’ main target. However, El Desmarque believes Leeds’ Joseph, 21, is a last-ditch option.
Betis are apparently attempting to sign Joseph “in parallel” with their Hernandez deal.
Joseph has started only one of Leeds’ past ten Championship games, and his goal off the bench against Cardiff City on Saturday (1 February) was his first since October 18, against Sheffield United.
Real Betis makes a late bid to sign Leeds striker Joseph
It would be quite surprising if Leeds allowed Joseph to leave at this late stage in the winter transfer season.
At the time of writing, the Whites have only five and a half hours left before they must wait until the summer to sign any new players.
Daniel Farke now only has Joel Piroe and Joseph to play up front after allowing Joe Gelhardt to depart on loan to Hull City, while Patrick Bamford is injured.
Yes, he has other possibilities, such as Dan James and Brenden Aaronson, who can step in to lead the assault. However, what’s the sense of placing square pegs in round holes when two pegs will fit?
Joseph is an exciting young forward, and while he’s had a quiet run in front of goal, that’s understandable given his age of 21.
The Spain Under-21 international has the potential to be a great talent, and given Leeds’ lack of other options up front, selling him now would make little sense.
