According to Football Insider, if Leeds United do not get promoted this season, they would face serious financial problems.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that there is great worry at Elland Road following the publication of the latest accounts.
The Whites filed their 2022-23 accounts with Companies House on Tuesday (9 April), indicating a record revenue of £189 million and an overall loss of £33 million.
However, there are £190 million in unpaid fees owed to other teams, which will become a huge worry if promotion is not secured, finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider on Sunday.
If Leeds United do not return to the Premier League, they will face serious consequences.
O’Rourke believes the latest stats were not good news for Whites fans, with promotion crucial this season due to the losses and, indeed, another season of missed money from the Premier League.
He explained that the Elland Road owners expected to return to the top division this season.
That goal was also reflected in the decision to engage Daniel Farke as manager, as the German had previously won promotion twice with Norwich City.
Not long ago, the Whites appeared to be well on their way to attaining their goal, as they led the championship table.
However, a dismal run of play has dropped them to third place, one point behind Leicester City in second and two behind leaders Ipswich Town.
