According to David Ornstein, Leeds United are finishing papers to buy Tottenham defender Joe Rodon.
The Athletic journalist reported on X [1 July] that Rodon is expected to sign a contract at Elland Road as part of Tottenham’s deal to recruit Archie Gray.
Gray will leave his boyhood club to sign a six-year contract in North London for a total of £25 million plus Rodon.
The paperwork on the Rodon contract has been slightly delayed because the Welshman is now in Las Vegas before returning home for preseason.
Leeds United completes Joe Rodon move
Leeds United needed to meet PSR decisions by 30 June, thus negotiations for the Gray transfer had to start before that date, which they did in this case.
This is also why Gray and Rodon’s transactions are separate, rather than a swap.
Rodon joins the Whites after being a tremendously useful loan player last season, making 50 appearances in all competitions and working flawlessly with Daniel Farke.
Gray, who turned 18 this year, has already played for England’s Under-21 team. The club will be devastated to lose such a promising young player.
However, the finances and player they are recouping in return surely lessen the impact and transform the transaction into a positive for the club’s revitalized promotion push in 2024-25.
With the announcements due soon, hopefully the end of any significant player sales between now and the end of August.
