According to Sean Whetstone, Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville will sign a contract to leave Elland Road in the next few minutes.
Whetstone reported via the X account West Ham Football on Friday (2 August) that the Dutchman will sign a five-year contract with West Ham United before 4 p.m. today.
While no formal statement from either club has been made, the 22-year-old appears to be preparing to leave the Whites following three seasons in the Leeds first team.
Daniel Farke’s side is anticipated to pay an initial fee of around £25 million for the winger’s services, with additional add-ons expected to boost the transaction value up to £30 million [Last Word on Football, 1 August].
Will Crysencio Summerville leave Leeds United amid West Ham United transfer rumours?
Unfortunately, this has been a long time coming at Leeds United, and while fans would have like to keep Summerville for another season, he was always expected to leave if the Whites failed to gain promotion.
Players like that do not want to and should not play in England’s second tier. The Dutchman is simply too excellent for the Championship, and while it took longer than intended, this change was unavoidable.
Hopefully, Farke and his recruitment team will already have a list of targets ready to increase their ranks when the new Championship season begins. They can’t afford not to replace the Dutchman.
Whether or not those arrivals are imminent remains to be seen, but with Summerville scheduled to sign in less than two hours, the Whites do not have much time to spend.
The season is quickly approaching, but Leeds still have about a month to add to their squad before the transfer market closes.
