Leeds United executives are perplexed by the transfer rumors surrounding Matt Targett, according to Beren Cross.
The Leeds United Athletic reporter claimed via X (30 January) that, despite links to the Newcastle United defense, many on the inside at Leeds are astonished where the rumors have come from.
According to [The Athletic, 28 January], the West Yorkshire team inquired about Targett’s services, with his current club willing to let him depart for the correct fee [The Sun, 29 January].
Leeds United are not anticipated to make Matt Targett move.
Although Junior Firpo has since recovered from injury, it was not surprising to see the Whites connected with the left-back during the transfer window, as Firpo is out of contract at the end of the season and talks about a new contract have yet to begin.
Furthermore, with Daniel Farke aiming for automatic promotion with his Leeds club this season, any additions to the squad will be a bonus.
Since sustaining an injury, the 29-year-old has struggled to find playing time in the North East, making only one Premier League appearance this season.
That being said, Targett is undeniably a quality defender who, if called upon, would certainly fit in well with a top Championship club.
It appears that this one is off the table, as personnel at Elland Road are unsure where the noise came from. However, if the manager were to make a late bid, the Whites could do worse than sign Targett before the transfer window closes.
