Leeds United are not interested in signing Krasnodar’s Eduard Spertsyan, according to Match TV.
On Saturday (1 February), Ivan Karpov stated on his Telegram channel that the Whites are hoping to beat Sunderland to a deadline-busting deal for the 24-year-old.
However, Russian network Match TV has dismissed speculation that Spertsyan may join Leeds United after contacting the club for clarity.
“No, that is not true,” the Whites’ press office informed Match TV on February 2.
Are there no more signings at Leeds United?
The winter transfer window closes on Monday (3 February) evening, and Daniel Farke’s team could go the rest of the season without adding a single player.
With Leeds United’s interest in Spertsyan quashed, it seems increasingly probable that no one will go through the doors at Thorp Arch on Monday.
However, the West Yorkshire club is still hoping to sign Cameron Archer from Southampton in order to strengthen their attacking options.
Leeds have previously had a £15 million proposal rejected by the Saints for Archer, but there is still hope that a trade may be completed.
Farke’s team may be able to recruit the former Aston Villa striker if Southampton sign Danny Ings after Evan Ferguson’s loan move to West Ham United [David Anderson].
Meanwhile, if Leeds United had pursued a deal with Krasnodar to sign Spertsyan, he would have created competition for Brenden Aaronson.
The Armenian international has six goals and three assists in 18 league games this season, contributing significantly to the Russian club’s title drive.
