Leeds United’s squad will look very different next season, with an unbelievable 20 players potentially leaving this summer.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is still well-connected at his former club, revealed that Daniel Farke will have a “difficult” summer as he looks to reshape his squad and challenge for promotion again next season.
Southampton overcame the Whites 1-0 in the Championship play-off final, denying them an immediate return to the Premier League.
According to Football Insider, up to 20 players might leave Elland Road this summer as a number of contracts expire, while important first-team players are expected to seek transfers or be sold to earn much-needed finances.
On May 26, Football Insider revealed that Leeds must recuperate an astronomical £150 million in player sales as a result of their promotion failure due to outstanding transfer payments.
Leeds United’s squad will be substantially different next season.
Robinson anticipates plenty of transfer action at the West Yorkshire club in the coming weeks as they attempt to balance the books ahead of next season.
“There have been whispers that at least 20 players could leave Elland Road this summer,” he told Football Insider.
“You look at Cody Drameh, and Stuart Dallas is certainly going to join the coaching staff.
“Poveda, Byram, Rodon, Shackleton, Anthony, Roberts, Ayling, and Cooper are nearing the end of their contracts and loan arrangements.
“This summer will be critical for Leeds’ rebuilding efforts. The initial step is to cut their cloth suitably.
“But they’ll have to consider what they’ll lose, how much they’ll bring in, and what they can receive for the players on loan.
“It’s about determining what’s going to go out before you know what’s going to come in.
“It’s difficult to predict what positions they’ll require since you don’t know which players will be available.
“It will be a challenging summer for Daniel Farke to balance his squad. There will be a lot of outgoings and incomings.
“I think the squad that starts next season will be substantially different from the one we’re witnessing now.
“The recruitment is going to have to be very clever to replace the players they lose.”
