Leeds United will have a busy few weeks in the transfer market as Daniel Farke aims to enhance his squad ahead of a huge season.
The Whites fell just short of promotion back to the Premier League last season and will be eager to get it right this time around.
Leeds United have sold six players, made six free transfers, and loaned out three others.
The Elland Road club has also signed four players: Joe Rothwell on loan, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, and Alex Cairns.
Leeds are set to attempt to reinforce their right-back ranks following a string of departures.
Archie Gray, Luke Ayling, Rasmus Kristensen, Cody Drameh, Connor Roberts, and Jamie Shackleton have all departed Elland Road in recent weeks.
According to sources, Leeds are looking for a young Premier League defender who can play both right-back and center-back.
Even better, the player in question is apparently willing to join the Whites on loan, although his club seemed to prefer a Championship move for him.
Leeds will fancy their chances of signing Chelsea’s Alfie Gilchrist.
The guy in question is Alfie Gilchrist, who burst onto the scene for Chelsea last season.
Gilchrist made 17 senior appearances for the Blues in 2023/24, including his first Premier League goal in a 6-0 victory over Everton in April.
Ben Jacobs claimed on X in late May that Leeds were one of the clubs interested in the 20-year-old player.
In June, Jacobs told the Just Joe Football Show that Gilchrist was open to a move to Leeds.
“He has enormous respect; Chelsea and Leeds have a strong rivalry, but he would still go there. He would be eager to help Leeds compete for promotion.”
And just a few days ago, Jacobs informed GiveMeSport that, despite interest from Italian club Como, Chelsea wants to send Gilchrist to the Championship.
“They feel this is best for his development – much like when Levi Colwill was sent to Huddersfield Town in 2021/22 – and don’t want to use up an international loan spot,” wrote the player.
Gilchrist has already proven his ability to succeed in the Premier League, earning plaudits from Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella.
Palmer referred to Gilchrist as “Big Alf” in the comments section of an Instagram picture he made in April after scoring his first league goal, while Cucurella described him as a “killer”.
Chelsea clearly has high aspirations for Gilchrist, and a loan to a good Championship side with high stakes would be the best option for him.
Leeds face stiff competition for his talents, but they will undoubtedly fancy their chances of bringing him on board.
