According to HITC, Leeds United are currently leading the hunt to sign Burnley attacker Manuel Benson.
According to the news outlet, Leeds are “favourites” to recruit the 27-year-old ahead of Sunderland, with Gretar Steinsson looking for two new wingers before the transfer market closes on August 30.
Leeds are reportedly making headway in their pursuit of Angola international Benson, while Norwich’s Jonathan Rowe is expected to join Marseille.
HITC says that Benson is interested in moving to Elland Road, with Burnley preferring a permanent transfer over a loan agreement.
Leeds United are in pole position to recruit Manuel Benson in a double swoop.
Even though Leeds have lost a number of great players this summer, their squad remains quite strong on paper.
Daniel Farke named a starting lineup against West Brom on Saturday that included Willy Gnonto and Dan James on the wings, and Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph in the middle. On the bench, he had Brenden Aaronson.
Sure, there isn’t much depth there, but Leeds has to add a new attacker or two before the transfer window closes in less than two weeks.
Benson won the Championship with Burnley a few of seasons ago, but after scoring 11 goals in 33 league appearances under Vincent Kompany, his form has deteriorated since then.
He played only 110 minutes of football in the Premier League last season, spread across eight outings, while he has been an unused replacement in two of two matches this season.
He’s unlikely to fill the void left by Crysencio Summerville, and Leeds fans have every reason to feel ripped off when the club is looking for bargain basement deals after selling well over £100 million in talent this summer.
