Crysencio Summerville is anticipated to receive a lot of attention this summer, whether Leeds United go up or stay in the Championship, and Stephen Warnock has provided his thoughts.
The Championship’s Player of the Season has lit up the league in a Leeds shirt, with the 22-year-old contributing 30 goals from the left wing, scoring 20 and assisting on another 10.
Despite interest from Burnley and a £20 million deal for Summerville, the Dutchman decided to stay at Elland Road last summer. That interest will only grow following a successful campaign for Daniel Farke’s side.
Aston Villa are thought to be among Summerville’s admirers, with Unai Emery excelling as manager. The Spanish manager appears to be on track to lead the Midlands team to the Champions League next season.
Warnock, the former Leeds captain, pondered Summerville’s future ahead of the summer. He believes that promotion might determine the Netherlands U21 star’s future, with clubs such as Villa interested in a trade.
In a recent interview with Football League World, Warnock also talked about Villa’s interest in Summerville and whether he could be enticed.
Warnock believes Crysencio Summerville may struggle to reject Villa.
“It all hinges on whether Leeds make it back to the Premier League. If they continue in the Championship, Leeds will have to cash in on him to ensure their long-term stability,” Warnock stated.
“To be able to continue and possibly strengthen the squad in preparation for next year’s championship. Leeds fans may hate me for saying this, but if you had a team like Villa and a manager like Unai Emery.
“If you’re in the Champions League, that’s a difficult thing to pass up. He’s a player that both Leeds and Aston Villa will want to keep, but he’d also be an exciting addition to their squad.
Aston Villa is not the only Premier League team considering Summerville.
Liverpool is also rumored to be interested in Summerville and has been scouting him for some time. Arne Slot is due to take over at Anfield, and he is known to be a great supporter of the attacker.
Summerville will most certainly receive additional Premier League interest before the start of the window, but as Warnock points out, his future will depend on if Leeds can make an immediate return to the Premier League.
Leeds can still finish second, but it appears that the Whites will compete for promotion through the play-offs at the end of the season, as Micah Richards anticipated.
