Leeds dealt a blow as ‘Slim Hope’ emerges from transfer for Farke favourite – report

According to Football London, Leeds United has a “slim hope” of re-signing Joe Rodon for the 2024/25 season after Premier League clubs expressed interest.

The news outlet writes on its website (16 June) that Leicester, Southampton, and Ipswich are all interested in signing the Tottenham defender following his successful loan spell at Elland Road last season.

The Wales international’s contract in north London has been extended for another year [Football London, 6 June], and while Leeds are hoping to return him to the Championship for at least another season, their chances are “slim” because the 26-year-old sees himself as a Premier League player.

Leeds United face a big transfer blow in the Joe Rodon race.

Nobody was overjoyed when Leeds United recruited Rodon on loan last summer, and no one expected him to have such an impact on the squad.

He quickly became one of the first names on the teamsheet at centre defense, and his leadership characteristics, as well as his ball-playing ability, made him a favourite of Daniel Farke at the back.

Both player and club had previously stated that they would like to continue working together in the 2024/25 season, however this was before the Whites failed to regain promotion to the Premier League.

There is now a completely new dynamic at work, and with Rodon viewing himself as more of a Premier League player than a Championship player, interest from top-tier clubs is sure to pique his interest.

Tottenham will not sell cheaply, and the amount may make it tough for Leeds to compete as well, so it is a major setback for the club’s summer intentions.
