Leeds could get a last-gasp 26-year-old transfer bid, according to reports

According to Bild, Borussia Monchengladbach is considering a move to re-sign Leeds United defender Max Wober.

The German newspaper stated on August 27 that if Gladbach can sell midfielder Manu Kone before the transfer deadline, they may rekindle interest in Wober, who spent last season on loan at Borussia-Park.

Gladbach have been interested in re-signing Wober throughout the summer [Marlon Irlbacher, 24 August], but after being unable to agree on another loan arrangement with United, they may be able to make a permanent bid if Kone is sold first.

According to Bild, Wober’s lack of minutes for Daniel Farke’s side this season has sparked speculation that interest could “flare up” if Borussia makes a permanent transfer bid.

Max Wober’s deal to Leeds United is expected to go down to the wire

While Brenden Aaronson’s return to the fold following his own loan period in Germany was publicly proclaimed by both the club and the player, Wober’s reintegration into LS11 has gone unnoticed.

Wober, like Aaronson, played for the club in pre-season as the rest of last season’s loanees returned to their respective clubs, either temporarily or permanently, but he remains a United player with three days left in the window.

However, Monchengladbach’s interest has been constant since Wober’s Bundesliga performance last season won him a spot in Austria’s EURO2024 squad, and it appears that it will only grow in the coming days.

While the Whites are accurate in their belief that another loan move for Wober is unacceptable, they may be willing to accept a late proposal that is comparable to the £10.5 million they paid for the Austrian in 2023.

Wober’s ability to cover left-back would require Farke to bring in backup for Junior Firpo in the last stages of the transfer window, therefore the Peacocks will want to guarantee Wober stays put.
